Fast & Easy!
Growing Easter Grass!
So much fun for your kids/grandkids!
Free Instructions!
This Easter Basket of Tulips is what I always set out every year on my Easter Table. Since we usually invite my entire family over, we have more than one Easter table so I try to make different arrangements of these tulips for each table.
If you look real close, you’ll see that it’s real grass growing in that basket!
Yes, indeed, I’ll show you how to grow the grass too! It’s SUPER easy and it’s a fun activity to do with your kids and/or grandkids.

The Easter Basket REAL GRASS!
Materials Needed:
**Plastic bowl that will fit inside your basket
**Grass seed
**Potting soil
**Cinnamon
**Plastic bag (large enough to fit the bowl inside)
**Spray bottle for misting the seeds
**Scissors (for cutting the grass once it starts growing!)
**Your Kids/Grandkids (because they love doing this !)
1. Start with some good potting soil.
This is what I normally use but any seed starting soil will work.
2. Fill your plastic container with the soil and water thoroughly with warm water until the soil is damp but not soaked.
3. Scoop out the grass seed.
I used about 1/3 cup of seed for a 7 1/2″ diameter dirt container.
Press the grass seed into the soil. It’s not necessary to cover the seeds with soil.
It’s better that they lay on top of the soil.
4. Be sure to put a thick layer of seed down, making sure that all the soil is completely and thickly covered with seed.
Fill a spray bottle with warm water and wet the seeds thoroughly with the sprayed water.
5. I know this seems odd but I always sprinkle cinnamon on top of the seeds.
This seems to help keep fungus from growing while the seeds are germinating. It also makes the dirt smell nicer.
6. Sprinkle the cinnamon liberally over the top of the seeds.
7. Put the entire container into a plastic bag. The seeds don’t need sun to germinate.
It’s more important that they are placed in a warm dark place. Ideally the temp should be 70 degrees or warmer.
8. This is what it looks like after only 3 days! Usually, there are sprouts after only 2 days.
If you don’t see sprouts after 3 days, chances are it wasn’t warm enough or the seeds/soil wasn’t damp enough.
Once the seeds have sprouted, take the bag off and sit the container somewhere sunny and warm.
Water it with a spray bottle and if there seems to be bare spots, just throw in more seeds and water with the spray bottle.
9. This is what it looks like after only a week. It’s time for a haircut!
Actually, it would have been thicker than this but our cat got in it and pulled a lot of it out. Silly cats!
This needs watered every few days.
Now comes the really fun part …get the kids and some safety scissors!
10. My grandson enjoys cutting the grass for me.
I generally like the longer grass for displaying the tulips but cutting it back is necessary every few days. It smells so nice too…just like summer!
When the Tulips are ready, just insert them into the soil.
Lay some pretty Easter eggs in the grass between the Tulips to make it even prettier!
